Welcome to KMD Productions

Creating Community in Pro Audio, Entertainment, and Beyond

Meet KMD Productions.

Founded more than a decade ago (by me, Karen!), the idea to start my own company has taken off in ways I never envisioned.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles, KMD Productions operates internationally and offers both in-person and virtual full-service event coordination and management for businesses and nonprofits.

What my clients say about me

From my own vantage point, I’m elated to learn that someone is actively bridging the gap between students and the professional audio world in this fashion. Coming into the industry 20 years ago, I had no avenues to practice pitching myself to potential employers, or get the insights of professionals outside the limited confines of a few paragraphs in Mix Magazine. By creating an elevator pitch and actively researching each of the panelists, these students have started to build the mental muscles they need to help them land their first internship or job.

Working with Karen has been a pleasure for Sennheiser.  She kept the planning and projects on track for our 2018 Americas Kickoff Event, managed our budget, and was our single point of contact among many services (before, during, and after our event).  Karen brought great ideas forward to help us improve our event, and she was available to us whenever we called on her.  Our Kickoff was rated as one of our most success for Sennheiser Americas, and it was in large part due to her cool head and total dedication to our success.

“Karen Dunn is an extraordinary event planner who is widely respected for her creativity, her work ethic, her attention to detail and her absolute integrity. “

“Karen was tasked with lofty ambitions, done under a ton of public scrutiny with almost impossible goals. And to work in conjunction with 4 other teams. She brought a calm demeanor, never missed a beat, and executed even when it wasn’t clear to her why.”

Those who know me, know I am a detail junky with high standards and expectations. I have had the pleasure of being impressed with Karen’s professionalism, detail orientation and can do attitude three times. She is a perfectionist who goes above and beyond to make it happen.”

Greg BeebeDirector Profession Audio, Sennheiser

“Karen is a passionate, creative and future-forward professional. She has been instrumental in helping grow the Annual TEC Awards to become a marquis event at The NAMM Show, not only gathering the international pro audio community in Southern California each January, but also garnering the attention of a global media base. She is always calm and solution-oriented, allowing her to keep the event on brand, on budget and on time. She has become a great asset to NAMM and the TEC Awards brand.”

“Karen Dunn’s Networking Zoom calls have not only been a highlight of my week, but they are also a huge factor in my business development during COVID.
Karen’s Zoom calls open a door to meeting people I have always wanted to work with in Pro Audio and Music. I have made some great new friends and on each call I have made a business connection of some sort. It has honestly been one of the best things to come out of our industry during quarantine!
I just hope she keeps inviting me.”

Listen with us as we sit down with Recording Engineer, Music Mixer, Producer Broadcast Consultant and Owner of the Recording Project, Ian Charbonneau.

Growing up around his father’s audio recording truck, Le Mobile, Ian Charbonneau learned early that there’s a special magic to recordings made live and in the field. Today in his work as an engineer, producer, and broadcasting consultant for his company, The Recording Project, he’s perfected the fly pack, traveling to capture the magic of live shows for artists like Eric Clapton, Roger Waters, The Rolling Stones, and most recently, Melissa Etheridge’s powerful live album recorded in a women’s prison, I’m Not Broken. Join us as we talk about his passion for audio, the live experience, and a great cup of sake.
